In a blink of an eye we will be in December. That's the time wehn many organisations will start the process of annual appraisals. Yours may not be an exception. As we all know appraisals can be very effective to support and steer the development of people in our organisations. But this will only be the case if they are conducted professionally. If done badly they can have catastrophic effects on the motivation of the appraised. This would be neither in the interest of the company nor in that of the employee.

Today many managers are under such pressure that they hardly ever find the time for personal development and training in the regular working hours.

Based on various conversations I had with managers in Rsesearch and Development about this subject I have developed a programme which might be of interest to you:

I offer a TeleClass titled „Top Tips for the conduct of effective appraisals“

Objective:
Explain and discuss „best practice“-approaches to enable participants to conduct the annual appraisal more effectively.

Programme:
• What makes an appraisal effective?
• Define key steps in the appraisal process
• Approaches for effective feedback
• Conduct of appraisal discussions
• Documentation of appraisals
• How can the effectiveness be further enhanced

Duration:
2 times 1 hour interactive participation in a telephone conference with maximum 12 participants.

20.00 hrs UK time in English

Cost: early birds pay 25 Euro.

Although higly interactive this Teleclass is not suitable for "beginners". People with reasonable experience in conducting appraisals will beneift most.

How does a TeleClass work?

TeleClasses are facilitated telephone conferences with participants dialling into a teleconference system with a PIN. The conference is designed to encourage interactive behaviour. Participants learn about the subject, contribute with their own experience, discuss and exchange their views. After the TeleClass all participants will get access to a protected website from which they can download the material covered in the TeleClass.

Mid December I circulated an e-mail News Letter to an extensive list about a TeleClass with the above mentioned title.
A few people commented with doubts that a media such as a tele conference would be appropriate to cover the subject. The TeleClasses are not intending to deliver basic training to "new comers" on the subject of appraisal. It should enhance ones ability to be more effekitve in appraisal rounds. Hence also the emphasis of exchanging best practice and delivering top tips to participants. Thus enbaling them to be more effective in the appraisals (and development)of their direct reports. The very specific needs for each participants can be cover in the individual coaching hour.

In the test series of this TeleClass I have received very positive feedback. Even the more sceptical ones were surprised how good it worked for them.

The SEPAWA association of soap-, perfume- and detergent experts e.V. is one of the largest expert associations in Europe with more than 1.000 members. The goal of this national association is the practical, scientific and further education of all those affiliated with any branches of the detergent and cleaners industry, cosmetics, perfumery as well as chemical technical applications. Over 1200 participants are expected for the 52. SEPAWA-Congress at the Congress Centrum in Würzburg.
